BALI TRAVELOG 2019 DAY 3: Tegalalang Rice Terrace, Karsa Spa, Campuhan Ridge

1:43 PM

DAY 3

24th September

Today, we ate our breakfast that was included in our hotel fee before we started our journey.

Breakfast by Alam Terrace Cottages

This day we departed at 9AM from our hotel too. First stop was Tegalalang Rice Terrace. There was an entrance fee of IDR 10.000 per person which I didn't know before I went. This place was just good for taking photos, nothing else to me. The weather was so hot and we had to climb stairs and walk through narrow trails to get to nice spots for photography. My parents waited at the entrance for us while me and my sis taking photos because they were too tired to climb stairs.

After that, we asked Mimi to bring us to somewhere we could buy cheap souvenirs without have to haggle price (after the experience at Ubud Market haha). She brought us to a place called Krisna Oleh-oleh Bali. I thought the place was nearby but it turned out we had to drive around 30 minutes from Tegalalang Rice Terrace.

Krisna Oleh-Oleh Bali

This place was made for tourists. It's free entrance and there were a few nice photography spots outside the building.

Indeed, the items they sold were really cheap. But it's obvious that the quality was not as good. They sold a lot of cheap graphic T-shirts but I only liked the ones with Bintang Beer logo. They also had food section but the prices were a bit higher than the prices at Bintang Supermarket.

I bought a Bintang Logo T-shirt (IDR 43.000) and two pairs of beach pants (IDR 26.500/each).

I limited our shopping time to only one hour because we had a spa appointment at 3PM.

So, after shopping, we went to Nasi Ayam Kedewatan Ibu Mangku for lunch. I think this was the cheapest famous food we ate in Bali. Luckily, there wasn't a lot of customers and the food was served quickly because it's pre-cooked.

I think they only sell one kind of food, which is their signature nasi ayam (IDR 25.000/each). You can only choose whether to have your chicken served separated from the rice, or served together in a plate.

The taste was nice but it was really spicy!

We managed to reach Karsa Spa 15 minutes before our appointment time. I felt weird though that we were asked to pay a fee to drive into the village that Karsa Spa was located in. The road that lead to Karsa Spa was very narrow but still accessible by cars. Mimi dropped us at the entrance of Karsa Spa.

The place was decorated like a resort. It gives a peaceful and calm vibe with the sound of water from fountains.

Once we reached, they served us quickly because they didn't want to waste any time. Their schedule was fully booked so they needed to make sure every guest ends their session on time I guess. I overheard that they told the tourists who walk-in that they're fully booked for the coming two weeks. Sure enough, I knew Karsa Spa was very popular because of its high rating and it's almost always fully booked so you had to book at least 2 weeks in advance. We had to pay 50% deposit online for booking.

We were given welcome drinks which I think was nice ginger tea. We were asked to fill in simple forms to let our masseur know which part of our body that we would like to focus on and the massage force that we like. Then, we were also asked to choose the type of essential oil to be used for the massage.

After that, we were allowed to use the washroom before we went to our private rooms. The place looked so nice that exceeded my expectation. It's so calm and quiet in there.

Me and my sis shared a room while my dad had the whole room by himself because my mum didn't want to have the massage. She's just waiting for us at the reception.

We were asked to take off our clothes except panties and lie down on the beds while waiting for our masseur to come. Was a little awkward haha.

Overall, the massage was okay I guess. This was my first time doing full body massage. And frankly I didn't feel much difference after the massage, probably coz my muscles weren't tensed to begin with. I did feel quite good during the massage though. Oh, I booked their most popular Intuitive Heart Massage which caused IDR 360.000 for 90 minutes.

After the massage, we were left alone in the room again to clean up our bodies from the essential oil.

We took quite some time to wash off the oil. After showering we also took time to take photos in the room haha. I think the cleaner waited outside for us to leave the room because they asked us whether we're done once.

Well, since Balinese massage is a must-do in Bali, we tried it and we kind of enjoyed it. I think the best part of Karsa Spa was the environment and their service. They maintained the place really well to make it pleasing to guests and the staffs were all friendly and polite. Every staff we met asked us if we liked our massage haha, even the cleaners. My masseur kept asking me if her force was suitable throughout the massage. Oh BTW, my sis's masseur had hearing impairment so she couldn't speak.

After our massage, we paid the remaining balance of the massage price and left. We left around the sunset time so we managed to catch a glimpse of the beautiful paddy field just outside of Karsa Spa!

Then, we walked toward the Campuhan Ridge coz by walking through Campuhan Ridge we could get back to Jalan Raya Ubud. I'd already asked Mimi to pick us up at the other side of Campuhan Ridge.

Road to Campuhan Ridge from Karsa Spa

It's quite a nice walk. I met a few cute dogs, there's one that particularly friendly which kept wanting to jump on my legs, couldn't help but to stroke it although its very dirty. After that, I just wiped my hands with wet tissues.

The overly attention-seeking dog (the grey one). When I was taking a video of the black dog, it rushed into the scene and started shaking vigorously on the floor to beg for attention lol.

Too bad, by the time we were walking through Campuhan Ridge, we had already missed the golden moment of sunset so the view wasn't as nice as what I'd expected.

Mimi picked us up at the end of Campuhan Ridge (or the start of Campuhan Ridge) and dropped us at our dinner place called Umah Pizza which was just located at the road to our hotel. It was our last stop for the day and also the time we're saying goodbye to her. We tipped her IDR 50.000 for her 3-day service, not sure if the amount was considered okay.

Umah Pizza was a restaurant I found on Google Maps. I was lazy to take a taxi to those famous restaurants that's located quite far from our hotel, so I searched for restaurants that's within walking distance and to my surprise, there were actually two pizza shops with high ratings along the road that lead to our hotel and one of them was Umah Pizza.

The place had a nice environment with the dim lighting and lively music. You can even see how they made their pizza with a wood oven.

We ordered small Umah Pizza (IDR 43.000), Duo Di Salmone Pizza (IDR 40.000), Tropical Pizza (IDR 33.000), Pizza Chocolate Strawberry (IDR 28.000), Avocado Juice (IDR 15.000) and Arak Madu (IDR 25.000).

Oh ya, one thing I liked about Bali is that many restaurants I went used paper straws.

Chocolate Strawberry

Can't really remember the taste but I think we liked the salmon pizza the most. Umah and Tropical pizzas were a tad too salty. Chocolate Strawberry was sweet as it's a dessert. The drinks were nice.

After our dinner, we walked back to our hotel and ended the day.
